As I started writing this, there was a mighty storm raging outside. The wind was howling, the sky was pouring, and hail was raining down. Our power kept going out and it looked like it was going to be a long night.
And yet, it wasn’t all bad. The television wasn’t working so we moved the ottoman out of the living room and rolled around on the floor. Our dog gets nervous in storms so she started dragging out her toys and Lincoln was trying to play with her. My husband and I sat on the couch and talked. It was nice.
This storm was weirdly exactly what we needed. It forced us all to take a little break, settle in with one another, and spend time together with no distractions. It was wonderful.
We thought it was going to be a long night of thunder and lightning. But, after thirty minutes or so, the hail stopped, the rain lightened up, and the wind blew away.
This momentary pause in our lives got me thinking about the times when life throws storms our way. We’ve faced many twisters, cold fronts, and thunderstorms in our lives. We’ve walked head first into the eye of the storm and made it out the other side together and stronger than ever.
Storms may seem insurmountable. It may seem that the dark times are never going to end. But just wait it out. Weather the storm. And the sun will shine again.
