5 Years

Today marks five years since my husband and I had the wedding of our dreams and announced our love in front of family and friends. Our wedding day was beautiful, one for the books. Of course nothing went according to plan and it was absolutely chaotic; but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Because life is messy and imperfect, and our wedding was just the start of the rest of our lives.

Despite the craziness of the day, looking back all I see is the beauty of what took place there. We loved, we laughed, and we cried. Many wonderful memories were made and shared with the loved ones we held most dear. We often look back fondly on those days and recount those cherished memories like they were yesterday.

I was looking through wedding pictures today for this post and it made me start reminiscing again. I remember the way my husband looked when I was walking down the aisle. I remember our hands shaking as we held on to one another as we entered this next chapter of our lives. I remember our first dance and the many more I tried to get my husband to have all night long. I remember doing the cliche shove-the-cake-in-the-face bit and loving every second of it. I remember the drinking, the dancing, and even the karaoke. Oh, it was a great night. But more than anything, I remember that from the moment I started walking down that aisle to the moment I fell asleep wrapped in my husband’s arms, my smile never left my face. It was a happy day.

Looking back on the last five years together, we’ve had many happy days. Our lives have been fortunate. We’ve had many days full of love, laughter, and joy. But there have been hard times too. There have been messy days, sad days, angry days, and everything in between. But I wouldn’t trade one second. Because that’s what life is. It gets messy, but in the end there are smiles on our faces.

Happy Anniversary baby! Here’s to many, many more!
