This book wasn’t on my original book club post. If you remember, I was two books shy and this is one that I’ve decided to add to my list for this year. This novel is actually one that I was required to read for a psychology course I took this past semester. I enjoyed reading it so much that I wanted to share it with you all!

Caroline Kepnes is most famous for her book, Hidden Bodies. If you haven’t checked that one out – you should! She is an astounding writer whose voice paints a clear picture of what the characters are thinking and feeling and causes the reader to fall into the story. You is a great example of her writing prowess and is one that I highly recommend.

You is the story of a serial killer, Joe Goldberg, who becomes obsessed with his female love interest, Beck. The novel follows his pursuit of her and his subsequent obsession with her and her loved ones. He spends the entirety of the novel trying to gain her love and admiration by slowly ridding himself of any obstacles.

An interesting element of this novel is how Joe uses her social media accounts to learn more about her and stalk her throughout her daily life. It is a great commentary on how modern society overshares and is not cognizant of its effects on their lives.

This book was a quick read. It pulls you in and you become rooted in the characters’ stories. You become so enraptured by the “hero” of this story that you find yourself feeling pity for him and hoping he succeeds in his ventures. The reader finds themselves rooting for a serial killer – now that’s a sign of a good writer! I found myself wanting to know more and staying up all night to finish the story as quickly as possible. I have never enjoyed a homework assignment so much!

So are you a thriller reader? What did you think of this story? Let me know what you think of the book down below!
