Everyone likes to talk about the mythical work and life balance. Just Google the term and you’ll be met with all sorts of tips and tricks. It’s a never ending chase that always feels us leaving inadequate. While it is important to make sure you’re balancing your time at home and away, I don’t think this perfect balance actually exists. It’s always just out of reach.

I have been off my game lately everyone. I’ve been consumed with work while also balancing finals at school, my day-to-day home life, and getting prepped for our little one’s arrival. It has been a hectic couple weeks and its safe to say that I have not been balancing well. Which has led to my realization that this perfect balance that everyone strives for isn’t actually attainable.

While it is important to balance the various aspects of your life, it is not achievable to be in perfect sync all of the time. Some days you will expel all of your effort at work and come home too exhausted to cook or clean. Other days you may have to take time off of work to focus on your family. I think as long as you are giving it your all and doing your best, it will all work out in the end.

I think this is an important lesson for anyone to learn, but it is really hitting home for me as I step into motherhood. I have a lot of friends who are mothers and I know this is a constant source of struggle in their lives. It is important as a mother to realize you can’t be everything, always. This is something I am learning now and hope to continue to remind myself as this next chapter of my life begins.

Balance is key; it just may not always look the way you think.
