It’s time for another book review! I’ll be honest ya’ll, I am not doing the best at keeping up with my book club. I am trying so hard to read every book I listed, however when I decided to do this I did not know that one of my college courses I am currently taking would require me to read one novel a week! It is hard to juggle all that reading! However, I finish this class in a few weeks and then I should be able to catch up!
Anyways, today I am going to be talking about The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines. You probably know this amazing couple already, and if you don’t – you should! They are the television personalities of Fixer Upper on HGTV, which is currently recording its fifth season! They are a dynamic duo that run a realty and construction company which is the premise behind their show in Waco, Texas.
However, they also have many other business ventures. They own a bed and breakfast, they run the Silos, they have a furniture line, a magazine, and a blog! They juggle all this with their show and their children, and now this book too!
This book is a quick, easy read. It tells the story of how these two met, fell in love, and their personal and business journey through the years. They discuss the ups and downs of their many ventures, the effects on their marriage, and how it felt to grow their family. They are open and honest about their trials, tribulations. and the various choices that have led them down this path.
Their story is one that many can relate to. Joanna talks of her struggles with career and family balance, her identity crisis and how she discovered what she wanted to do with her life, and how it feels to be in the limelight. Chip talked about his desire to break out on his own, his tendency to be spontaneous (and why that’s not always a good thing), and how him and Joanna balance their conflicting personalities.
The book was well-written, and again is an easy read. I thought it was interesting how the story was written from both perspectives and bounced back and forth between Chip and Joanna to show both sides of their journey. Finally, they included pictures of their childhoods and their journey together which was a nice addition!
Overall, this book was a delightful read! If you have always wanted to know more about their backstory or if you want to know more about them now – I would highly recommend it! It is an easy read with beautiful cover art that would make a good coffee table book or gift for someone in your life who is a fan of Fixer Upper!
